What are the requirements for using Passthrough mode?
Passthrough mode operates by copying the video and audio directly from the source file, offering the benefits of high speed and no quality loss. This mode does not limit the file format, but the video and audio encoding must adhere to the following conditions:
Video Requirements:
- For UHD: Encoding must be HEVC with a resolution of 4K (3840×2160).
- For Blu-ray: Encoding must be H264 with a resolution of 1080P (1920 x 1080) or 720P(1280 x 720).
Audio Requirements:
- Encoding must be AC3, DTS, TrueHD, Blu-ray PCM, or EAC3.
Important Notes:
- Passthrough mode is only applicable to video files and cannot be used for images or music.
- Even if the video encoding meets the specified conditions, the output disc using Passthrough mode may not be compatible with Blu-ray or UHD players due to stricter encoding requirements for Blu-ray and UHD videos. These conditions serve as a basic guideline. Passthrough mode is most effective for videos extracted from Blu-ray discs.
- For TrueHD audio processing according to Blu-ray standards, TrueHD audio cannot be used alone. It must be combined with AC3 to create an AC3+TrueHD audio track. Therefore, TrueHD can only be used for M2TS files containing AC3+TrueHD composite streams. TrueHD files in other formats like MKV and MP4 may not be playable using Passthrough mode.
